It is not unlikely that Acton, M. S., may prove useful on the Mott Haven team. Recently in the gymnasium he put the shot 40 feet on almost the first trial. Before he came to this country he was a remarkably good man with both the hammer and shot.
The Newton (Mass.) High School Athletic Association are making arrangements for a series of canoe and single scull races to be held on the Charles river, on the Riverside course, the latter part of May.
Twenty-five thousand dollars have been collected toward building the "Harvard House" in New York City. "Harvard House" will be a general club for Harvard men; and the entire expenditure on ground and building will be over $70,000.
The Yale-Princeton chess tournament is drawing to a close, and Princeton seems tolerably sure of winning. In the Ruy Lopez game Yale has broken Princeton's attack, and rendered the result doubtful, but in the Evans gambit Princeton has gained such an advantage that Yale will probably resign after a few more moves.
Both the 'Varsity and Freshman Glee Club are having rehearsals every day. During the present month the 'varsity will give six concerts. At the freshman concert next Wednesday, Eddy and D. C. Green of the varsity will sing solos, while Whitman, also of the 'varsity will yodel.
It has been definitely decided to hold a Western Inter-Collegiate Field Day at Champaign, Ill., May 13th. All the prominent Colleges and Universities of the following States will send representatives: Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
