The deciding game between Ninety-two and Ninety-three was played on Jarvis yesterday afternoon and brought victory to the seniors. The play was by all means far the most interesting seen thus far in the class series. The excitement was very great in the last three innings, during which it was anybody's game and the score see-sawed, first in favor of the juniors, then changing at most unexpected moments until the seniors again rose to the top.
Up to the seventh the Ninety-three team seemed to be the stronger. After an earned run in the first for Ninety-two, '93 scored three runs by an error, three steals and two base hits, then adding one at a time she raised her tally to five, at the same time shutting out her opponents for five innings.
In the seventh the senior nine, aided by Ninety-three's careless work, brought in a run, while in the next inning the seniors' hopes were considerably raised, as, one by one, their men crossed the plate until the score was tied. Ninety-three then came to the bat, but Jameson and Stubbs both struck out. Merriam's base hit again raised their courage. He stole second and came in on Conro's hit, who scored in a similar way by Collamore's hit and the juniors again led, 7 to 5.
It was Ninety-two's turn to feel blue but her ranks were re-enforced by a lot of enthusiastic victorious Cambridge school boys, headed by a brass band, and she rallied bravely, while Ninety-three became badly rattled, and, aided by a base on balls and two timely hits, Ninety-two scored her winning runs. Ninety-three went out in one, two, three order and the game was over.
Spalding's pitching and Fearing's work on second were features of the game.
The score:
