In their game with Hopkinson's yesterday afternoon, the freshman nine displayed a tendency which must be checked at once. The playing savored too much of playing for pleasure, not for work. Any idea which the nine may have that these practice games are played for pastime, will, if persisted in, be sure to bring the team to disgrace. The work which the nine has before it is to develop the best possible team that is in their power, in order to meet Yale as strongly as they can. They owe this to their class and to the whole university. Now the way to make a good nine is not to play some of the games for fun, hoping for a stroke of genius to carry them through the final game. Nothing but steady, earnest work can make a sure team.
