Base Ball Notes.

The nine is now pretty well under way. All the old men are at work but two, Hovey and Trafford. Hovey will begin to play sometime before the April recess and Trafford very soon after. Highlands, the new pitcher, is doing well, and Bates is soon expected back to college, so that we are reasonably sure of at least two first-class pitchers. Upton and Cobb are both catching again, and Clarke '94 and Corbett are doing very good work. The infield will probably be about the same as last year, with Frothingham at second. In the outfield Hallowell and Dickinson will probably play, and the position of left field is uncertain. Among the new men Whittemore '95, and Wadsworth '95, and Paine '94 are perhaps the most promising.

The nine will go out of doors today if the weather permits, and commence to practice on ground work and team play. If they can have good weather enough to get into fairly good condition, the nine will take a trip through New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania during the recess. They will probably play the Manhattan Athletic Club nine at New York on the 7th of April. They will then play at Bergen Point, in New Jersey, Lehigh at Bethlehem, and the University of Pennsylvania, at Philadelphia.

About the 21st of March the schedule of games will be out and will include an unusually number of college games instead of any with the league nines. The sale of season tickets will commence very soon after the publication of the schedule, somewhere about the 25th or 26th of the month.

The coaching this year will be done mainly by Winslow, with the advice of Clarence Smith and Winsor. Special attention will be paid to team work, and everything will be done to bring up this side of the work.

The nine, as yet, has been compelled for the most part to work in the cage, but if this good weather holds on the progress should be very rapid. The work in the cage has not materially changed. The men spend considerable time in starting from bases and sliding. In addition they take a quick run, and finish with some dumb-bell work.
