For the benefit of certain unenlightened members of the freshman class the captain of the university crew has published a statement giving the lowest estimate of the expenses which the class will have to pay for its crew. These figures have been computed with a great deal of care from the experience of former class crews, and there is no reason to believe that the expenses could be cut down one atom lower. The slowness of the class in subscribing to its crew might have been heretofore explained by the fact that the men did not realize how much was needed. This statement with its total of $2650 is an excellent enlightener. Ninety-five sees now what a task it has before it, and sees too that the task has got be done, if a crew is to be sent to New London. There is absolutely no way in which the crew can earn money; all the support must come from the class. In order to furnish this support, the class must do its utmost in the way of subscriptions. For the past few years the freshman crews have come very near not being able to go to New London for lack of funds. Unless every man in this year's freshman class subscribes as generously as he is able, the same uncertainty will arise about sending the crew to New London, and the chances are even that funds will fall short. It costs money to run a crew, and if Ninety-five means to have one, it must make up its mind right away to support it.
