Not all of the 'varsity base ball players of last year's nine have gone into active training, but all are expected to begin very soon. About seven candidates have been dropped from the list and the following men are now practising in the Carey building: B. Cook '92, Lake '92, Soule '98, Hallowell '93, Fearing '93, Winsor '93, Corbett '94, Dickinson '94, Lowell '94, Paine '94, Linfield '94, Harding '94, Quigley '94, Whittemore '95, Manning '95, Dodge '95, Washburn Gr., Whiting Sp. The men have been able to practise outside only on one occasion, but the soft ground rendered the practise useless. "Tim" Keefe is still coaching the pitchers, and some of the men have made wonderful improvements in the past two weeks. Some provisional engagements have been made for games during the April recess and definite dates will be agreed upon very soon.
The number of freshman candidates has not yet been cut down, but the men will be weeded out during the next few days. The men show improvement, especially the batteries, but the inability of most of the men to slide bases is noticeable. Practice will continue as usual in the gymnasium cage until the weather permits of outdoor work.
