Base Ball Conference at Springfield.

CAMBRIDGE, MASS., Feb. 15, 1892.

To the Editors of the Crimson:

In view of the relations existing between the Yale and Harvard Base Ball Associations during the past year, and in consideration of the impressions naturally created thereby, we desire in justice to the graduates and undergraduates of Harvard as well as to our Graduate Advisory Committee and ourselves to make a statement in regard to our failure to come to terms with representatives of the Y. U. B. B. Association at a meeting called by Yale in Springfield today.

Yale made a proposition to the effect that a series of three games should be played as follows: The first on neutral grounds, the second at Cambridge, and the third at New Haven on Yale's Commencement Day.

This arrangement we declined to accept for the reason that we were unwilling to select the home-ground of one of the contesting teams as a suitable place for playing the possible tie game of the series.

We made the following propositions to Yale:

First - To play a series of four games and a fifth in case of a tie, in accordance with the custom of recent years. Yale was unwilling to consider a series of four games and we at once waived the question.

Second - We offered to play a series of two games, and a third in case of a tie, as follows:

The first game in Cambridge on the day before Harvard's Class Day, Thursday, June 23d.

The second in New Haven on Yale's Commencement Day, Tuesday, June 28th.

The third, if played, on neutral grounds on the next Saturday, June 2d, which will be the day after the Yale-Harvard boat race at New London.

Third - We offered to arrange the series as indicated in our second proposition, omitting, however, all considerations of a third game.

The Yale representatives refused to accept either our second or third propositions and insisted that their original proposition was the only one they would agree to.

Under such circumstances Harvard did not see fit to complete arrangements, whereupon the Yale delegates said that they did not desire to consider any other proposition and then withdrew from the meeting.

LOUIS A. FROTHINGHAM, Capt.JOHN W. CUMMIN, President.Delegates to the Meeting.
