THE Harvard Musical Association, which has just taken up its new quarters in Boston, is the oldest musical association connected with the college, and it is to its early influence that we owe most of the musical advantages which we possess here. The Pierian Sodality was founded in 1808, and about thirty years later members of the society formed the Association, the purpose being to get graduates interested in the society and to better the condition of music at Harvard.

After the Association severed its connection with the college it naturally had little interest at Harvard, but we owe much to the society for its influence in establishing a chair of music here and for its management of the Symphony concerts. The Association has been fortunate in having the able musical critic Mr. John S. Dwight, 32, for its president, as by his earnest work it has largely increased its membership and has strengthened its position among the musical clubs of Boston.
