The annual football game between the freshmen of Harvard and Yale will take place on Jarvis field this afternoon. With the exception of last year the Harvard freshmen have won this game for the last six years, and the question is whether the ninety-six eleven will be able to add another to the list of Harvard's freshman victories. And the prospects are bright that it will. Although the Yale team will come up with a long list of players from the varsity squad, and three from the regular 'varsity eleven itself, their victory is by no means sure, and the Harvard eleven will possibly give them a genuine surprise before the afternoon's play is over.
As the situation looks at present it will be a game in which fine individual work will be pitted against good team-play. The only opportunity that the Yale freshmen have had to learn to work together was yesterday, and it would be remarkable indeed if they could do more in that one day than barely to get some system into their play. Harvard, on the other hand, has had the whole of this week to practise together. Many of the 'varsity men have come out regularly and lined up opposite the freshmen to teach them points in breaking through and blocking off; to give them, in other words, the best possible practice so that their individual work may be as good as possible. The tackles, especially, have been taken in hand, and coached on breaking up interference and getting out of pockets. The guards, too, have received a great deal of attention, and it is hoped that in spite of their inexperience they will be able to make a creditable showing against the two Yale veterans. It is in teamwork, however, that Harvard should excel and it is only through team-work that they can hope to win.
The two teams will be made up as follows:
