The finishing touches are now being put upon the interior of the new Yale gymnasium. The swimming tank and Turkish baths were opened yesterday, and will be opened daily for the use of the men. The bottom of the swimming pool is inclined so that the water will vary from 4 1-2 feet in depth at one end to 7 feet at the other end. The rules require that all persons using the swimming tank should be washed before entering the pool, and the showers in the Turkish baths are to be used for this purpose. Mr. Schwartz, a skilled bathing master, will be in charge of the Russian and Turkish baths.
The bowling alleys have been completed for some time except for the final treatment with varnish, which will be applied at once after the inspection of the alleys by an expert from New York for the committee of acceptance, which met last evening and took action in regard to accepting the alleys from the builders. It is probable that the alleys will be ready for use by the middle of next week.
A new water pipe and new meters have been put in for the free shower baths on the second floor, so that the flow of water in them will be independent of the other baths, and scarcity of water will be avoided.
