WE call the attention of Ninety-six to the notice of the captain of the 'varsity crew calling for candidates to-night for the freshman crews. It is highly necessary that the work for the crew should begin at once and the captain of the 'varsity has made careful plans for the year and is working hard to produce a good freshman crew in the spring. Nevertheless he cannot do the work alone and however zealously he begins it, he needs the support of the class, and a large number of candidates to choose from. Moreover it is highly necessary that the freshman race be won this year as well as the 'varsity, and Ninety-six has a great chance before them if they choose to make the effort. In this their freshman year, Ninety-six will be critically watched by the whole college, for only during this year do they as a class take part in inter-collegiate athletics. The very best effort of the class must be made this winter, and there should be a better response to this call than there was to that for the eleven. We urge all freshmen who weigh as much as 140 lbs., to present themselves, while those who weigh much over that are indispensable. The foot-ball men are also requested to attend to entering their names, though of course they cannot begin training till after the game with Yale. It is very desirable that Captain Vail's call be heartily answered, and that every possible candidate present himself to-night.
