The Harvard Rowing Club begins this fall its fourth year under most favorable circumstances. Ever since Mr. Weld gave the excellent building that bears his name the club has been on a steady increase in membership and the interest that is taken in it shows conclusively what a long felt want it has supplied.

Those who do not know its position may be interested to learn that Mr. Weld instituted the club primarily that there might be an opportunity for rowing for those men who did not care to try for the 'varsity or class crews, and secondarily that good men might incidentally be developed for those crews. The popularity of the club grew so fast that a year or so ago more lockers were added. Each year the number of boats has been increased and several new shells have been made this summer. Mr. Weld has always taken great interest in the club since he founded it and presented us with the boat house; and this year we understand that he intends to arrange for a series of races between crews of the club and those of the Union and Boston Athletic clubs. If this project is carried through it will result in a number of interesting races, well worth the trying for positions in the crews. We suggest to members of the university who have not joined the club that it is well worth their while to do so especially since the plans for the coming year are so promising.
