In the match yesterday afternoon for the College Championship, Hoppin '93, again won the championship by defeating Chase '95, the winner of the recent tournament. The match was much more exciting than the score indicates as almost all the games were deuce games, and for a while things looked badly for Hoppin.
Hoppin started out well by winning the first set, but in the next he went to pieces and repeatedly drove the balls into the net and outside. However he took a brace after the third set and by good playing won the next two sets and the match.
Following is the score by sets:
1st set, Hoppin 0 2 3 0 5 6 7 8 6
Chase 1 0 0 4 0 0 0 0 2
2nd set, Hoppin 0 0 0 0 5 0 0 1
Chase 1 2 3 4 0 6 7 6
3rd set, Hoppin 1 0 0 4 0 6 0 0
Chase 0 2 3 0 5 0 7 8 9 6
4th set, Hoppin 0 2 3 0 5 6 7 8 6
Chase 1 0 0 4 0 0 0 0 2
5th set, Hoppin 1 0 3 0 5 6 7 8 6
Chase 0 2 0 4 0 0 0 0 0 2
In the doubles yesterday Read and Johnston beat Codman and Winslow, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Today, Lyman and Chase will play Read and Johnston at 9 a. m. on the Cary court.
