In celebration of Columbus Day an appropriate commemorative service will be held in Appleton Chapel next Friday. The opening address will be given by Justin Winsor, L.L.D., at the special request of the corporation. Rev. Prof. W. Churchill of Andover will follow with a reading of Lowell's poem, "Columbus." The hymn written by Prof. John K. Paine, for the opening celebration of the World's Fair at Chicago, will be sung here by the college choir and University Glee Club. The privilege of using this hymn has been granted Prof. Paine by the authorities at Chicago. The services will begin at 8.45 a. m. and last one hour. A large part of the floor will be reserved for members of the University and recitations of the first hour will probably be omitted. It has not yet been definitely decided to make the entire day a holiday.
