There is some complaint that the ringing of the bell for Vespers is not of the sort to attract attention. If one happens to be busy or some little distance from the Yard the sound of the bell does not reach one. Men who hardly ever missed a service last year have missed all but one or two this year. The attendance at these services, which for several years have been the most popular of all our religious services, has certainly fallen off this year. The decrease in attendance seems to be among the college men, and if this is due to the fact that the bell is not rung long enough to announce the time for the service properly, it certainly can be remedied. If the bell for Vespers could be rung in the same way the bell for morning prayers is, - a few taps a quarter of an hour before the service begins and a steady ringing for the five minutes immediately before the service, no one could fail to hear it.
