Funeral of Professor Lovering.

A very simple but impressive funeral service was held in Appleton Chapel yesterday at twelve, over the remains of the late Professor Joseph Lovering. The large gathering of students and friends of the family outside the college, at the funeral, shows how great was the number of the friends and admirers of the deceased. At noon the procession moved slowly up the aisle headed by Dr. Peabody and Dr. William Lawrence; the pall-bearers were President Eliot, Justin Winsor. Dr. Morrill Wyman Alexander Agassiz, C. F. Choate and Professor John Trowbridge.

Passages of Scripture were read by Dr. Peabody and Dr. Lawrence offered prayer. Between the readings the Chapel choir rendered the following selections: Anthem, "The Lord is My Shepherd" and the hymn, "Hark! Hark My Soul." There was also a solo from the Burial Service. Many of the older members of the Faculty attended the funeral and sat in a body in the front seats to the right of the aisle.
