The seniors and freshmen played the first game for the class championship yesterday afternoon on Jarvis Field, and the former had little difficulty in winning. Minton was taken out at the end of the second inning and Dickin son pitched the rest of the game. Although ten hits were made off him, he was steady and showed considerable speed, and satisfied the onlookers that he was the best pitcher that had as yet represented the freshman team. Corbett backed him up well and the team played a good uphill game, but were handicapped by the heavy batting of the senior team.
The Ninety-one men had little difficulty in hitting both freshman pitchers, and Luce and Corning especially rapped out some timely hits. The fielding features of the game were Clark's pretty running catch in the fifth inning, and Corning's stop of a hard hit ball in the seventh inning.
The attendance was by means as large as at the other class games and there was no enthusiasm whatever. The supporters of both teams gave the players very little encouragement, and the absence of mascots and a band was noticeable-in short the game lacked many of those features which add so much to a class game. The field was not surrounded by rope and at times the crowd got on the field. The second game of the series will be played this afternoon on Jarvis Field, simultan eously with the game on Holmes Field.
