The first report of the secretary of the class of 1890 again brings forward a few interesting statistics about the average age of students graduating from Harvard. In the past eleven years the average age has increased almost exactly eight months-practically one college year. This increase would not be so significant were it not for the fact that it has been so steady, each year seeing a slight raise over the year before it. Our friends who have been advocating the reduction in the requirements for the degree have frequently pointed out that the average age of students is on the increase. Their opponents have as frequently claimed that the increase was so slight as to have no significance on the general bearing of the question. The statistics prove that the increase of average age has been almost a year since 1879. Whether such a difference is, or is not, significant will prove a point for debate whenever the proposed change is meeting discussion.
