The Yale Crew.

The eleven candidates for the Yale crew left for Philadelphia last night where they will be trained during the Easter recess by "Bob" Cook. The men will stay at the Continental Hotel during their stay in Philadelphia, and will make their rowing headquarters at the Schuylkill Boat Club's House. The crew as it rowed last Saturday, was criticised as follows:

The general faults of the crew may be summed up as follows: A failure to keep time, pulling oars out on the finish, rushing slides and not holding them long enough on the catch, and a ragged swing.

Bow. Balliet, 166 lbs., is short and therefore has to reach too far to keep up with the other men, buries oar too deep in the water at the finish, and is slow to start on recover.

2. Crosby, 168 1-4 lbs., is too slow in getting down to the water on the catch, bucks and fails to keep oar in the watter till the finish, has a tendency to swing towards his oar, and does not get ready for stroke coming aft.

3. Mills, 176 lbs., is apt to be slow and fails to get down to the water on the catch, is liable to be behind, and rushes slide.

4. Graves, 176 lbs., does not swing with the other men and is loose in all his motions; is slow in getting his handle up.

5. Pond, 173 lbs., does not swing straight, and is loose in all his motions; is apt to get behind the rest of the crew.

6. Jones, 170 lbs., is slow on the catch, and has a tendency to slump on the finish, drops over on the catch, and and pulls out at finish.

7. Hagerman, 180 1-2 lbs., fails to follow stroke closely enough, swings in toward oar at finish, and bends too much.

8. Simms, 167 lbs., is not regular in his stroke, swings back too far, and is too slow on the finish; does not slide far enough aft.

The other men in training are Brewster (captain). 181 lbs.; Gould 173 lbs.; Heffelfinger, 204 lbs.; Paine, 189 lbs., and Ely, 175 lbs.
