In answer to all this, the H. A. A. management may very likely say: "That is all very well in theory, but if we abolish this rule and consequently our sole source of revenue, how are track athletics going to be supported?" They may claim that our answer rests on a matter as yet wholly in the air. But surely, if one can read the signs, the time when all the 'varsity teams will be mutually self-supporting is not far off. The graduate treasurer speaks most encouragingly of it; everything points to it. Cannot the Harvard Athletic Association trust to it and the generosity of the University and abandon this unjust rule?
