The candidates for the Yale nine are doing much the same work as our men. They practice throwing and fielding, base running and sliding, daily in the cage, with the usual exercises in the gymnasium and out-door running. In addition to this, every man has certain hours for batting practice, under the coaching of Horner of the New Haven team. The old men who are candidates this year are Poole '91, who played catcher on last year's team; Norman McClintock, who played left field; Cushing '91, right field; Mnrphy '93, centre field; Owsley '92 S., third base; Bowers '92, and Jackson '92 S., who were substitute pitcher and catcher respectively. Heffelfinger was substitute catcher in '89, and will try again this year. Dickerman, who was captain of last year's freshman nine, is one of the most promising of the new men. Case '94, captain of last year's Andover team, also has a good chance for the nine. Other candidates are: Kedzie '93, S., W. McClintock '91, Parker '91, Harvey '93, Neary L. S., Stewart '94, George '94, Thompson '93, S., Noyes '92, Day '93, Evans '93, S., Warner '94, and Tramback '93, S.
An idea of the chances for a good battery may be gathered from the following list of candidates: For pitcher, Evans, Case, Bowers, Warner, and Tramback; for catcher, Poole, Jackson, Kedzie, George, and Thompson.
