It is the privilege of us all again to welcome Dr. Lyman Abbott, who, as University preacher, is with us for a short season. It is not, perhaps, generally understood in college at what a sacrifice Dr. Abbott gives us his services. He leaves all the important calls and duties of his own church and editorial work to give Harvard men his best strength.

It is impossible to show Dr. Abbott how fully we appreciate his kindly efforts. The only return from us which he can feel is the marvellous success which his labors have yielded. His singular gifts as a preacher and man have won the highest admiration and affection from the students whom he reaches and helps, and he has succeeded in infusing in us all some of the earnestness and courage which animate his own purposes.
