The candidates for the Yale Crew met last Thursday and began work at once under the direction of Captain Gould. The training for this term will of course be very light - short runs and rowing in the tank. There are but three of last year's eight in college now, Gould the stroke and captain, Balliet at 2 and Paine at 4. The bow oar, Simms, may return to the Medical School and Heffelfinger may remain in the Law School. Ives, who was at 7 two years ago is still in college, but as his heart troubles him there is considerable doubt as to whether he will be in the boat and Mills and Crosby the substitutes of last year have declared that they will not row this season at all. Captain Gould however expects a great deal of the freshman class. Folger from St. Paul's School is a splendidly built fellow and is already most promising. Other good men are: Messler, Beard, Rogers and Graham all of whom were prominent foot ball men this past season. And Rogers is the brother of two famous oarsmen.
