The considerable attendance at the meeting held last night for the purpose of founding a University Republican Club demonstrated conclusively the appropriateness of such an organization at Harvard. This University has always aimed to send out into the world not only learned men but good citizens, and an early familiarity with politics, such as is fostered by college political clubs, is an invaluable aid to this endeavor. Especially is it necessary that both sides of all political questions should be discussed here; for Harvard College stands first of all for fair-mindedness in politics, as in all things. The Reform Club, though not Democratic in name, is undoubtedly so in its tendencies, and this new Republican organization will form a useful and needed supplement to it.
