The trial of voices for the 'Varsity Glee Club tonight should call out a large number of candidates. The Glee Club begins a new year with brighter prospects than it has ever had before. In former years there has been a drawback arising from a very possible refusal on the part of the faculty to allow the club to take a Western trip during the holidays. Consequently the club has occasionally been a trifle subject to the demoralization and lack of interest which are inevitable when there is no clearly defined purpose before the members. We do not mean to say that the Western trip is the main object ahead of the Glee Club; far from it. But such an enjoyable trip is certainly an incentive to more earnest and eager effort. This year, we are credably informed, there is every possibility that the club will make the trip.
The management needs the help of every man who can sing. Candidates are wanted for all the parts, and men are especially urged not to hang back on account of diffidence. The management has asked us to say an especial word to the freshmen and other men just entering college. It has been often unfortunately found necessary to issue several calls before the new men understand thoroughly the nature of the organization, the position which it occupies in college, and the worth of a place upon it. This year we hope that the new men will understand at the outset the high place which the Glee Club occupies in the college; and will therefore at once avail themselves of the privilege and duty of trying for it. The management will welcome every man to the trial tonight.
