That Harvard plays so important a part in the management of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens has not been well known, but a little investigation has shown that the University is greatly interested in the success of this American enterprise. Our professors hold positions of influence in the school and for a long time have been active in its support. Our graduates who are devoted to classical studies have also found the school of great value.

America has done much to develop the present condition of classical studies; and in this branch of knowledge, as well as in other branches, our students have shown such zeal and activity, together with such accuracy of work, that foreigners have been forced to look upon the results with much respect. This school at Athens is only an example of the energy and ability of American students.
