This evening Professor Royce will give his thirteenth and last lecture in Sanders Theatre. His subject, "Optimism and Pessimism," is one that appeals to the general public as well as to the philosophical student and admits of a treatment which brings it within the comprehension of all.
The series which is thus to come to a close tonight has been a notable one and has enabled students and Cambridge people to obtain a clear conception of the German thought of a period which has had the utmost influence on the course of conleuporary reasoning; a period without the full comprehension of which it is almost impossible to follow the intricate processes of the philosophers of today.
The popularity of the course shows how zealous people are to satisfy the growing desire to understand better what philosophers are thinking about; it has served a purpose much more wide-spread than was anticipated; and a renewal of the series next year is already looked forward to.
