Owing to the confusion and press of business of the first few days of the term, the calendar was delayed, and no notice has been given of daily prayers. The first service will be held this morning in Appleton Chapel, at 8.45. It is unfortunate that notice could not be given earlier of the beginning of prayers, in order to assure a full attendance; but the familiar sound of the college bell will remind upper classmen that the privilege is again extended to them of listening to a little music and a few thoughtful words before entering on the work and cares of the day.

We call the attention of the newly arrived class to voluntary prayers as an established Harvard institution. The voluntary system, ever since its introduction, has met with a hearty support from the students which has put scoffers to shame, and won admiration from those who doubted the sincerity of religious feeling at Harvard. We are confident that '94 will follow the example of preceding classes, and show their appreciation of their privilege by a large attendance at chapel this morning, and every succeeding morning throughout the college year.
