With the first day of college exercises comes the first day of college sports, and one of the most important days. It will give the captain of the eleven a chance to look over the new material, and to test the more experienced players. The afternoon's practice will be watched with unusual interest, since it will show what material there is in Harvard to build up a champion eleven for this year's team must be a champion eleven.
Every man in college who is physically able to play foot ball, whether he knows the game or not, should make it his first duty to present himself on Jarvis field at the appointed hour. Any one can be taught the game and strong and moderately heavy man may be developed into a valuable player. Harvard men must remember that this year is especially important in college foot ball. The captain of the eleven will spare no time or effort to form a winning team: but to be successful he must be supported by the hearty co-operation of every college man. No one should be deterred from trying for the eleven through fears of " freshness," inexperience, or ill success in previous years. Every strong man is expected to become a candidate.
