At a meeting of the Institute of 1770, held at the old rooms on Thursday night, a new plan for improving the society was considered. Several rooms have been discussed, but nothing has been found so good as a house at 76 Mt. Auburn Street. This is to be altered for the purposes of the society, and among other things some partitions on the lower floor will be removed, and a room made which will be large enough for all the members at the same time,

The constitution of the society was also changed on Thursday night. Members in future will have to pay twenty dollars in all, including an admission fee of ten dollars, and ten assessments of one dollar each, payable monthly. Instead of ceasing to be active members at the end of the college year when they are elected to the Institute, men will continue in active membership until the end of the first term of the winter following their admission. The polls are to be left open for two days after nomination.

For a number of years an attempt like this has been made to raise the Institute from the position of too dignified ease in which it stands, but all have failed. It is to be hoped that this effort to make it something more than a name and a library will succeed, as there is at present no real sophomore club in college.
