On Decoration Day on the beautiful grounds of Haverford College, Harvard won a decisive victory over the Harverford cricketers. The game was played according to the American plan, which worked well. Haverford won the toss and took the field. At the end of the first turn of three wickets Harvard had 26, of which Garrett had made 17 not out. Haverford then put up 12 for her first three wickets. Harvard's second turn raised the total to 46, Garrett again being the not out. Haverford, in her second turn, brought her total to 29. The last four wickets of Harvard then added 60, making the score for the first innings 106. During this turn Garrett was well caught by Bailey; he had been in from the beginning and had played sterling cricket for his runs. After Garrett's departure Balch and MacVeagh got together and hit the bowling all round the field, their partnership practically removing any chances that Haverford had of winning. Hewes also hit vigorously. Haveford's first innings closed for only 42, or 64 behind Harvard. About this time rain began to fall, which made playing difficult. However, at the end of the fifth turn the score was 164 to 70 in favor of Harvard. In Harvard's second innings Brown made 35 in his most aggressive style. He and Garrett both bowled throughout the game with success: and too much praise cannot be given to the captain for the able manner in which he managed the team. The fielding of the Harvard men, one and all, was firstclass. In fact Harvard outplayed her opponent at every point. W. S. Ellis, '89, captain of the '87 and '88 teams, was present during the greater part of the game.
