W. C. Downs, '90, won the 440 yards dash in the games of the Actors' Athletic Association at New York June 12. Downs was scratch man and completed the distance on a six-lap track in 50 1-5 seconds.
W. H. Wright, '92, won second in the quarter, and third in the half-mile at the games of the Athletic Club of the Schuylkill Navy at Philadelphia last Saturday.
A match game of tennis between Saunders, the English player, and Pettit of the B. A. A., was played Monday on the Lords' grounds, London. Saunders beat Pettit by a score of three sets to love.
The Harvard University Cycling Association will hold another race meet next fall. Among the events will be one of the Interscholastic Cycling Association races, and several other events open to the colleges only.
A bronze memorial tablet has been placed in the vestibule of the Chapel Street entrance of Osborn Hall at Yale, dedicating the building to Mr. Charles Jacob Osborn. At the top of the tablet is a head of Mr. Osborn in relief, and below an inscription in Latin explaining the gift.
The interest in the tennis tournament at Rochester centred in the match between Wright and Howard Taylor, last year's champion and holder of the cup. Some brilliant play was witnessed and after a hard fight Wright was obliged to yield to the present champion. Taylor won the series and the championship by the following scores: 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
Inasmuch as there is no medium through which the Yale Alumni can be informed of the life and advancement of the college, the Yale News has submitted the following proposition to the Alumni: "W, the editors of the Yale Daily News, signify our willingness to publish a weekly paper to be known as 'The Yale Alumni Weekly,' which shall contain the most important news of each week taken from the Yale Daily News, and that which would most interest the Alumni." It a circulation of not less than 600 copies, at $2.50 for the college year, is guaranteed, the board will undertake the scheme next September.
