The freshman nine defeated the Yale freshmen on Holmes Field Saturday afternoon in an exciting game. Only five Yale men accompanied their team, and the spectators, who were all for Harvard, supported the nine by enthusiastic cheering and aided materially to win the game. The Yale nine, except in the sixth and eighth innings, payed a very strong game in the field, and their batting was far steadier than Harvard's. Harvard played well in the field, but up to her last inning batted very weakly. The men did not become discouraged by Yale's lead, but played to win straight through. The combination, however, of a batting streak, and Yale's errors in the eighth inning was hardly anything more than a pure piece of good luck for Harvard. Harvard's infielders had very little to do, but Soule distinguished himself by making several fine stops and preventing safe hits from going to the outfield. His batting was very timely. Frothingham's single in the eighth came just at the nick of time and probably saved the game.

Neither side scored in the first two innings. In the third Soule made a scratch hit and stole second, took third on a missed third strike and came in on Frothingham's sacrifice to right field. In the fourth for Yale Harvey got his base on balls and stole second; Every hit to Dolan, who fumbled, and Harvey ran to third and then took home when Dolan threw the ball to third.

In the sixth Yale took a lead. Bliss hit safely and stole second; Harvey got his base on balls; Dickerman's hit sent Bliss to third and Harvey to second; with three men on bases Hatch made a three bagger to left and sent the men in; Jackson hit safely and Hatch scored. In her half Harvard made three runs. Upton got his base on Bliss' error and stole second; Stone got his base on a missed third strike and Upton took third; Stone stole second and took third on Dolan's sacrifice, which sent Upton home; first base made a bad muff and Dolan reached second on the error; Soule made a fine sacrifice; Stone scored, and before the Yale men woke up Dolan also crossed the plate.

Yale was one run ahead, and in the eighth she increased her lead. Dickerman got his base on a missed third strike, and Every's three bagger to right brought him in; Hatch got his base on Every's out at third, and took second on the same play; he reached third on Jackson's single and scored on another missed third strike.

Harvard came in her half to win the game. Trafford and Upton got bases on balls in succession; Stone struck out; Dolan's single sent Trafford to third, Upton to second and filled the bases; Soule hit safely and Trafford scored, Upton and Dolan each being advanced a base; Howe struck out; with two runs to tie, two out and the bases full, Frothingham came to the bat; he hit a rattling single to centre and Upton scored. Dickerman from centre field threw wild to the plate and Dolan scored; the catcher threw wild to the pitcher at the plate and Soule scored; Frothingham took third on the play. Hallowell made a two bagger to right and Frothingham came in. Every had a fearfully wild pitch and Hallowell scored; Johnson got first on left's error and stole second; short fumbled Trafford's grounder and Johnson took third; Upton scratched a hit and Johnson scored; Stone was the last man out

In Yale's half of the ninth the first two men struck out. Harvey got his base on balls and stole second and third Dickerman got his base on balls and stole second; Every was the last man out on a fly to Soule. The score:
