Boston A. A., 12; Harvard, 8.The Boston Athletic Association nine defeated the Harvard team yesterday afternoon by a score of twelve to eight. For three innings Harvard's play could hardly have been worse. The infield were rattled and costly errors were made one after another. There is no reason why Harvard should not have won the game; for her batting was heavier and she had the advantage of having five men sent to first base on called balls, while Downer did not send a single man to his base on four balls. Harvard's errors, however, were all made at critical moments, and her coaching, moreover, was poor. The batting showed some improvement but that it is still weak is shown by the fact that Harvard had nine men left on bases. Trafford and Stetson were the only infielders not to make errors. Dean made one or two brilliant plays at second base, and then some bad errors; his batting was very weak. At short stop Bates accepted three and refused three chances. Howland muffed two thrown balls at the plate and let in two runs. Upton misjudged a liner badly in centre, and Codman allowed a man to take three bases on a base hit.

The B. A. A. nine secured a run in the first inning on Downer's wild throw battery errors, and Dayis' hit. In the third inning they made two hits, which, aided by Bates' and Howland's errors, netted two runs, and two unearned runs. In the next inning Harvard went to pieces again and the B. A. A. got four unearned runs. Bates and Dean made errors in the next inning, Shores made a single, Burke a double, and three more runs were scored. This ended the visitors' run-getting.

Codman got a run for Harvard in the second inning on a hit, a steal, and Bates' hit. Linn and Howland made hits in the next inning and both scored. In the sixth inning Bates got his base on an error, stole second, got third on Downer's sacrifice. and scored on Dean's sacrifice. Downer got his base on fielder's choice, stole second, took third on Dean's sacrifice, and came home on Linn's hit. Codman made another run in the seventh, and Upton's two bagger brought in two tallies in the nineth inning. The score.
