Captain Poe of the Princeton eleven called a meeting of all who can play foot ball and instructed them to begin training at once. As several new men are trying for the team the captain will get his men on the field as soon as possible.
Wesleyan will make a strong effort to bring out athletics this year. A committee of the students has been appointed to confer with the trustees of the college about building a fence about the present field; but it is to be hoped that a new one may soon be secured.
The gymnasium competition at Amherst takes place at the Pratt gymnasium on March 26. The following is the programme of events: High kick, standing high jump, rope climbing, club swinging, boxing, pole vault, putting the shot, tumbling, flying and stationary rings, horizontal and parallel bars. There will be no tug-of-war contests as they have been forbidden by Dr. Hitchcock. The class receiving the greatest number of prizes wins the silk banner. The winners in each event will receive silver and bronze medals, and for record breaking gold medals will be given.
