March 18, 1890
The President of the Harvard Athletic Association
DRAKSIR.- I am directed by a vote of the Faculty passed this day to call your attention to the practice of certain students of "passing" and "knocking up" ball near the University building on Holmes field, e. g. the Jeffersol Laboratory.
Considerable damage has been done already in the way of breaking glass, and a greater injury is threatened to apparatus of a valuable kind left near windows exposed to the stray balls. Of course the Faculty could deal with matter directly, and take steps to protect the property by regulations and penalties, but it greatly prefers to leave a matter of this kind to be righted by student action. Acting upon this preference, which I am sure you will be glad to justify, it requests the Athletic Association or its officers to take such steps as may make further action unnecessary. Cordially yours
FRANK BOLLES, Sec. H. U.
