The Law school association has, through its secretary, Lous D. Brandeis, '77, issued a notice of the offer of a prize for the best essay on any one of the following subjects:

1. The meaning of the word "liberty" in the clause of the Liberal and the State Constitutions which protect life, liberty and property. Considered, first, in point of principle, and second on the adjudged cases.

2. The principle of "liability" in the case of Rylauck versus Fletcher, L. R. 3 H. L. 330 and its application to the law of torts.

3. Modification in the view of crime and in the treatment of criminals wrought by advancement of science and civilization since 1750.

The competition for the prize is open only to members of the third year class in the Law school. The essay may be sent to the secretary of the association, 220 Devonshire street, Boston, on or before March 1st, 1890. The prize will be awarded at the meeting of the association which is to be held in Cambridge in June, 1890.
