The Index.

The seventeenth volume of the college annual. the Harvard Index. will be published this noon by the editors of last year's number, Messrs. Bigelow and Hight of the Law School. The book is uniform in size with former issues but the binding is much neater and more attractive. The outside advertisements are reduced to a small space on the back cover and the advertisements throughout are reduced in numbers; the insertion of some of them in the midst of the directory mars its appearance somewhat. The list of students is competed from the latest data at the office, and the names of club members are revised as carefully as possible from the lists of the secretaries.

There are several noticeable changes in the contents of the new number. Four clubs do not appear that were in last year, the 'Varsity. Finance and Exeter clubs, and the Pi E a Society. The first of these no longer exists; the others have not organized for the year or do not wish to appear. Six new societies appear the Fencing, Canadian, Groton, Union, Cycling and Rowing clubs, and the Index and Portfolio take a place among the publications. The University Calendar is given more fully than last year. The list of both the '92 and '93 members of the lastitute of 1770 are given instead of simply the sophomores.

The summaries have received some valuable additions. A record of the Harvard-Columbia freshman in races is one of these. The summary of university boat races is imparted somewhat by leaving out the races with Columbia since '80. An entirely new feature is the record of the loter collegiate Base Ball League since 80. The scores in the Foot Ball League since its formation; the scores of freshman games with Yale; and the lists of the ten strongest men who have ever been in college and the 25 strongest men in college, according to Dr. Sargene's system, also form interesting innovations.
