The Longwood Tournament continued yesterday with favorable weather and the courts were in excellent condition.
In the first match Fred Mansfield beat D. K. Snow, Gr., two close sets, 6-5, 6-4.
Hovey, L. S., then played Wrenn, '92 in the semi-finals. The first set was closely contested, with both men playing at their best. Hovey finally won, 6-3. Hovey played his net game the second set, while Wrenn stayed back. The result was the set at 6-0 for Hovey. Throughout the match Wrenn played a strong game, and had he run to the net the last set he would have given Hovey a close rub. This victory puts Hovey in the finals.
During the afternoon the doubles were played. In the first round Manchester, '93 and Geo. Smith beat F. Mansfield and Snow 6-3, 6-4. Hovey and Tallant beat Keyes and Bixby 6-3, 6-4. Wrenn Bros. beat Forbes Bros. 6-2, 6-2. Ripley and Presbrey beat Hill and Phil. Mansfield 2-6, 6-0, 6-4.
In the second round Manchester '93 and Smith played Hovey and Tallant. After the sets stood at 1-1 the match was drawn on account of darkness. It will be played from the beginning this afternoon. Wrenn Brose. played Ripley and Presbrey a set and won 6-5; they will continue today.
This afternoon at 2.30 sharp R. D. Sears, ex-champion. will play Fred Mansfield an exhibition match. Mr. Sears will give his opponent half-fifteen. Saturday morning Mansfield will play Lee, L. S., in the semi-finals; the winner of this match will play Hovey in the finals at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon.
