As a sort of temporary substitute for a great library reading room the History department have obtained leave to use Harvard 3 in which to establish a working library for students of History. This kind of a library is very necessary; we are glad to find that something is to be done to enable a student to get even a little idea of the literature of the subject on which he is at work. As things are now, a class of over one hundred men is often referred to a book of which there is only one copy obtainable-the result is that everyone thinks the book will be in use, so no one tries to find it. If a number of copies of these reference books are placed where they can be examined at any time, the History courses will be much more valuable. This working library will be purchased with whatever is subscribed for the purpose, and we would do all we can to advertise this fact.
