Fencing Championship.

The entries for the foil, duellings word and sabre championships of the Amateur Athletic Union will close on February 1, 1890. An entrance fee of $2 which must accompany the entry for each event, should be sent to J. E. Sullivan, P. O. Box 611, New York. The contests will take place at the New York Athletic club, 104 West 55th St. The finals are appointed for Saturday, February 8, at 8 p. m. The time for holding the preliminary contests will be appointed by the committee when the entries are closed.

The following rules have been adopted by the committee:

Each contestant must provide his own foils and duelling-sword-the regulation No. 5 blade must be used. The diameter of the hilt of the duellingsword must not exceed five inches. All button points must be small.

The sabres used will be provided by the committee.

The costume worn must be a dark fencing jacket and trousers, so that the chalk marks can be easily and plainly seen.

On receipt of entry a small copy of the rules governing the championship contests will be mailed each contestant.
