Yesterday we published a letter from the captain of the Yale freshman crew asking that Harvard consent to Yale's rowing in the Harvard-Columbia freshman race, stating that Columbia had expressed her willingness to row a three-cornered race.

Some time ago, in response to an editorial in the Yale News, we took the stand that our freshmen could not row a three-cornered race this year, because no chance to beat Columbia could be ignored, and in the best opinion there is not room for three crews to race with equal advantage on the New London course.

We insist on this view of the question. It is not because we do not wish to row Yale, far from it. Harvard would be only too glad to row the Yale freshmen this year, if possible, but Columbia must be beaten, and in admitting a third crew we endanger our chances for success.
