The indoor winter meetings this year promise to be much more interesting than those of previous years, owing to the late action of the Athletic Committee by which the first meeting is to be relieved of the preliminary bouts in wrestling, and only the final bouts are to be contested. At a meeting to be held on March 11 the preliminary bouts will be held. Another important innovation made by the committee is the one which opens the third meeting to members of all the colleges of the Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the M. I. of Technology. By these changes much of the monotony which, in previous years, has been so characteristic of the wrestling, will be avoided, and, if the colleges which are at liberty to compete in the third meeting send delegates, not only will greater interest be added to the events of that meeting, but the men who are to contest at Mott Haven will gain by the additional competition.
The first meeting will be held on Saturday, March 16. The events for that day are heavy-weight sparring (over 160 1bs), middle-weight sparring (160 1bs.), light-weight sparring (140 1bs.), tug-of-war ('89 vs. '90, '91 vs. '92), heavy weight wrestling (over 160 1bs.), middle-weight wrestling (160 1bs.), light-weight wrestling (140 1bs.), feather-weight wrestling (125 1bs). At the second meeting, March 23, the events are as follows: Feather-weight sparring (125 1bs.), bantam-weight sparring (115 1bs.), flying rings, horizontal bar, broad-sword, fencing, and final tug-of-war. At the third meeting, March 30-Polevault, running high jump, standing high jump, running high kick, rope-climbing, parallel bars, two-handed fence-vault, and tug-of-war limit (600 1bs.), will be contested.
Gold medals will be given the winner in each event, and silver medals for second prizes. In the tug-of-war, only first prizes will be given. Entrance fees for all events, except tug-of-war, are fifty cents; for tug-of-war teams, $2.00. All entries must be sent with the fee before March 23d to J. Wendell, Jr., secretary of the H. A. A., 9 Linden street, Cambridge, Mass.
