The enthusiasm attendant on the formation of an Exeter Club on Wednesday evening was very encouraging and we are heartily glad to see the movement started so favorably. No time could be more favorable than the present for urging the formation of a similar club among the Andover men in college.
Andover is properly a Yale school, although a number of men enter Harvard each year. The number of Andover men in college is small compared to the number of men from Exeter, yet most of them feel that, if the right influence were brought to bear, an increasing number of Andover men would prefer Harvard to Yale.
A dinner of the Andover men in college was held last fall and was, perhaps, successful, but at this dinner the formation of a club was discountenanced; why, we do not know. But since then many Andover men have expressed regret that steps were not taken to form a club and hope that it may yet be organized.
It certainly seems that such a club would be productive of much good. From the very atmosphere of Andover, Harvard and Harvard methods are little known, and an active organization of Andover men here, working to exert their influence among men of their old school, would have a very strong effect. The work of the Exeter club at Yale is an example of the usefulness of such an organization.
Feeling sure that such a club is advisable and is strongly desired by many Andover men in college, we urge its formation.
