A largely attended meeting of enthusiastic Exeter men was held last night in the room of Thornton Woodbury, '89, 9 Linden street. Mr. Woodbury was made chairman of the meeting, and W. J. Farquhar, '91, secretary.
It seemed to be the feeling that a club should be formed, whose principal objects should be to make the new Exeter men coming to Cambridge acquainted with the alumni already down here, and to show men at Exeter that the graduates of the school have its best interests at heart. A committee of five men-one from the Law School and one from each class-was appointed to draw up a constitution for the club, and to present to the club at its next meeting other matters which required immediate decision. The following men compose the committee: W. C. Boyden, L. S.; T. Woodbury, '89; F. S. Duncan, '90: W. J. Farquhar, '91, and T. W. Lamont, '92. The general principles on which the club should be formed and kept up were discussed, but the details of organization were left to be discussed at some future meeting.
It is probable that no elaborate organization will be made. Purely social meetings will be held occasionally, and it is designed to hold a banquet in the fall just after the new men have entered college, and possibly one in the spring. The Exeter men in college are to be congratulated for their action in forming a club. The need of it has long been felt here, and if is conducted in the proper social spirit it cannot fail to advance Harvard's interests at Exeter. The large number of men present-about sixty in all-shows clearly enough that it is no small interest which the Exeter men here take in their school. The next meeting of the club, at which officers will be elected, will be held within ten days.
