Mr. Hayes met his voluntary class in Elocution yesterday afternoon for the first time. The large number of men present, almost thirty, shows that interest in this branch of instruction has by no means diminished, in spite of Mr. Hayes' inability to form a class earlier. At the next meeting, Lowell's "Vision of Sir Launfal" will be read, and after that is finished, selections from Fletcher's "Advanced Readings and Recitations." The class will meet twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays at 2 o'clock.
About twenty-five men have elected English 10. They are divided into two sections, one meeting Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, at 12 m., the other on Mondays and Fridays at 3 p. m., and Wednesdays at 11 a. m. The text-book used will be Coate's "Comprehensive Speaker." As the time is so limited, it is important that all members of the course should be present at every meeting.
