The machines with which the various class crews have to work at the gymnasium are entirely worn out, and it has become the imperative duty of the authorities, whoever they may be, to provide a new set. It is utterly impossible to do satisfactory work on rowing weights that are so far gone that they cannot be made to offer the slightest resistance, and which, therefore, men cannot possibly handle as they would an oar. These winter months are too valuable to be thrown away; the crews that use them to the best advantage always show it in the class races, but it is perfectly evident that work on such machines as those which are at present in the rowing room, will not enable any team to do itself justice.
