The only session of the Concord School of Philosophy will be a lengthy service in memory of the late A. Bronson Alcott in the Hillside Chapel in Concord, June 16th.
Prof. Bocher will sail for Glasgow from New York on June 28, on the State of Alabama. He will be accompanied by his daughter; and Professor and Mrs. Palmer will sail for Glasgow on July 7, on the Ethiopia of the Anchor line.
The report of the Committee on Athletics will probably be made at the faculty meeting to-morrow. The answers returned, in response to the printed circulars sent out, are of a practical nature, and will aid the committee materially in presenting their report.
At the thirteenth annual meeting of the board of trustees at Wellesley College, Miss H. A. Shafer, M. A., was confirmed as president. Miss Shafer has temporarily filled the position of president since the retirement of Mrs. Alice E. Freeman-Parker. It was also stated officially that the average age of the Wellesley student was 20 years.
The committee of students in the Divinity School, to which was intrusted the management of the repairs, recently made in the Divinity School chapel, reported Thursday that the work was done at a cost of $112.77. On Tuesday next the students will present to the school, to be hung on the chapel wall, a crayon picture of Dean Sawyer.
The final Sunday evening service of the year was conducted in the chapel last evening by Dr. Hale. The preacher completed the series of three sermons in which he formulated a student's code of morals. The theme of the discourse was: "Man's business in bringing in the Kingdom of God." Dr. Hale said that when tenderness and gentleness rule in the heart, charity and good deeds are sure to follow. In all our large cities there are many deserts of vice where any young adventurer in Christian work may find plenty to do. The music of the choir was more elaborate than usual. Mr. G. L. Osgood of Boston sang the beautiful solo "Come unto Me," by Coenen, and the choir sang the anthems "I am Alpha and Omega," by Stainer, and "Seek ye the Lord," by Roberts.
