The Boston Herald of a few days ago published a short item stating that the Harvard Faculty had positively refused the petition of the Alumni requesting that the University nine be allowed to practice with professional teams. Inquiry proves this statement to be utterly false. The Faculty have made no public statement whatsoever; indeed the matter still remains undecided among the members themselves. In deciding this question the Faculty are exhibiting a fairness for which all the students of the University ought to be grateful. None see more clearly than they that there are two sides to the question; and then, the petition coming, as it does, from unprejudiced men, is, in itself, a sufficient argument for the careful consideration which we may be sure it will receive. Our only hope is that the answer may come as soon as is possible, and that it may prove to be in accordance with the best sentiment of the college. Meanwhile, as the question is pending, the students should wait patiently believing that the Faculty will decide for their good.
