The Columbia College Dramatic Club has already given $1,000 to the boat club, and on April 6 and 7 will present a burlesque entitled "Captain Kidd," the proceeds of which will also be devoted to the boat club.
H. B. Patton, who graduated at Amherst College, has recently been greatly honored in being made associate professor of mineralogy at Heidelburg University. He is the son of the President of Howard University in Washington.

The last issue of the Yale News contains an editorial advising Yale students to cast aside the old-fashioned bristle tooth-brush, and use in its stead a fine woolen cloth. There is a strong movement on foot to keep the students at this operation during the exciting moments of a ball game,
The results of the entertainment held at the Hollis Street Theatre, Wednesday afternoon, for the benefit of the International Copyright Association, were better than those most interested expected, and the treasury of the association will receive about $500 as the proceeds of the event.
At a meeting of the Canoe Club, Thursday evening, the following men were elected members: William Beals, '88; Fred Kennard, '88; P. D. Trafford, '89; J. B. Crocker, '89; R. E. Faulkner, '90; R. F. Herrick, '90. Business relating to a boat room was transacted and an informal "smoker" followed the meeting.
The earliest eight-oared race was one between a London crew and Christ Church, Oxford, for $200, in 1828. It was rowed from Westminister to Putney, and won by London by 70 yards. The following year the first race between Oxford and Cambridge Universities took place on Henley Reach, a distance of two miles and a quarter, and was won by Oxford.
